The Bamboo Hair Towel from Curly'N'Covered was specially developed for curls, waves and afro-textured hair. Its smooth, soft surface absorbs excess water without unnecessarily roughening the hair or removing too much moisture while drying.

This is particularly beneficial for curly hair: Vigorous rubbing with classic terry cloth can pull individual hairs out of curl clumps, promote frizz and place mechanical stress on wet hair. The Curly'N'Covered towel enables significantly gentler drying and therefore helps reduce frizz, breakage and split ends.

It is particularly well suited to plopping and microplopping. With plopping, the curls rest compactly on the head and are less stretched by their own weight while drying. Their natural clumping is better preserved – for more definition, volume and bounce.

The comparatively lightweight fabric has also been chosen deliberately: The towel absorbs excess water without drying the hair out unnecessarily. This leaves some residual moisture in the hair, which is particularly important for curls so that they remain soft, elastic and defined.

The hair towel is therefore also ideal for a Curly Girl routine, in which the natural curl structure is treated as gently as possible and unnecessary friction is avoided.

How to use

After washing, work leave-in conditioner, curl cream or styling product into the wet hair as usual.

For microplopping, gently press individual sections of hair with the towel from the ends towards the roots. Do not rub – this absorbs excess water without unnecessarily pulling the curls apart.

For classic plopping, spread the towel out on a flat surface, bend your head forward and loosely place the curls in the centre. Then wrap the towel around your head and secure it so that the curls rest compactly inside it with as little tension as possible.

Remove the towel after about 15–30 minutes and then allow the hair to dry completely.

• Drying: air dry, not suitable for tumble drying – bamboo viscose is sensitive to heat and may shrink in the dryer

• Ironing: iron at a moderate temperature without steam

The soft bamboo viscose fabric has been tested for substances relevant to health and is suitable for direct skin contact. With the exception of silk, Curly'N'Covered sources most of its fabrics within the EU. The hair towel is cut and sewn in Germany.

The testing applies to the fabric used, not to the finished hair towel. Therefore, the end product itself does not bear a corresponding consumer protection seal.

What is plopping?

Plopping is a drying method for curls and waves. Wet, usually already styled hair is placed upside down in a soft towel and secured compactly on the head. This allows the curls to dry without being roughened by rubbing or unnecessarily stretched by their own weight.

What are the benefits of plopping for curls?

With plopping, individual curls remain better clumped and can better retain their natural shape while drying. This can support definition, volume and bounce while reducing frizz. Since the hair is not rubbed dry, the lengths and ends are also subjected to less mechanical stress.

How do you plop correctly?

First work styling products into the still-wet hair. Then spread the towel out on a flat surface, bend your head forward and loosely place the curls on the towel. Wrap the towel around your head and secure it without twisting the curls tightly or putting them under tension. Then allow the hair to dry completely.

How long should you plop your hair?

About 15–30 minutes is a good starting point for many curl types. The ideal duration depends on hair length, hair density and curl pattern. The aim is not to dry the hair completely in the towel, but to absorb excess water while retaining enough residual moisture for elastic, defined curls.

Can you plop your hair overnight?

We advise against it. When plopping overnight, the hair and scalp remain damp for many hours. Wet hair is also more susceptible to mechanical stress and may be subjected to greater strain from movement during sleep. It is better to use the towel only for initial drying and then allow the hair to dry completely.

What is microplopping?

With microplopping, the hair is not wrapped completely in the towel. Instead, individual sections are gently pressed or scrunched with the towel from the ends towards the roots. Excess water is absorbed while the curls remain in their natural clumps as much as possible. This method is particularly practical for fine curls or refreshing individual sections.

What is the difference between plopping and microplopping?

With classic plopping, all the hair remains wrapped in the towel for a certain amount of time. Microplopping is shorter and more targeted: the hair is simply squeezed out section by section with the towel. Which method works better depends on hair type, hair length and the desired definition.

Is the Bamboo Hair Towel suitable for the Curly Girl Method?

Yes. The Curly Girl Method places great importance on treating the natural curl structure as gently as possible. The soft bamboo hair towel reduces friction, is suitable for plopping and microplopping, and helps preserve the natural clumping of the curls while drying.

Why is a bamboo hair towel better for curls than regular terry cloth?

Classic terry cloth has a significantly coarser surface structure. Rubbing with it can create more friction, causing individual hairs to come loose from curl clumps and encouraging frizz. By contrast, the surface of the Curly'N'Covered hair towel is soft and smooth, enabling much gentler drying.

Why doesn't the towel absorb as much as a classic terry towel?

That is intentional. Curls benefit from retaining sufficient moisture in the hair after initial drying. The Curly'N'Covered towel absorbs excess water without drawing the hair completely dry as quickly as possible. This helps curls remain soft, elastic and better clumped.
